DROPCITY x KOMMA

DESIGN CHALLENGE — TERMS & CONDITIONS

1 The Design Challenge

The Dropcity x Komma Design Challenge (“Challenge”) invites emerging designers to develop a speculative vehicle concept using the Komma vehicle platform as its underlying architecture.

The Challenge is intended as a design and creative exploration of future urban mobility. Submitted concepts are conceptual design projects only and are not production vehicles or commitments by Komma to manufacture, commercialise or develop any submitted concept.

The Challenge is presented by Dropcity Milano [Via Sammartini 38-60, 20125 Milano, IT] (“Dropcity”) in collaboration with Komma [Via Losanna 4, 6900 Lugano, Switzerland] (“Komma”).

2 Eligibility

The Challenge is open to students, recent graduates and emerging designers aged 18–34 at the date of submission.

The age criterion reflects the purpose of the Challenge: to support emerging and early-career designers and provide a platform for the next generation of creative talent.

Participants may be studying or working in design, architecture, automotive design, mobility, engineering or related creative disciplines.

There is no entry fee.

Employees, directors and immediate family members of Komma, Dropcity and their respective participating partners may be excluded from entering.

3 The Brief

Entrants are invited to develop an original concept for an exterior vehicle body, structure or design expression based upon the Komma vehicle platform and the design brief published for the Challenge.

The underlying Komma platform, technical information, drawings, dimensions, trademarks and other materials supplied to entrants remain the property of Komma or its relevant licensors.

Materials supplied by Komma may be used solely for the purpose of preparing an entry for the Challenge and may not be commercially exploited or reproduced for any other purpose without Komma's prior written permission.

4 Submission

Each entrant must submit their concept in accordance with the format, specifications and deadline published by Komma and Dropcity.

[INSERT: number of submissions permitted, file format, maximum file size, deadline and submission method.]

Komma and Dropcity reserve the right to reject entries that are incomplete, submitted late, inappropriate, unlawful, offensive or otherwise inconsistent with the Challenge brief.

5 Originality and Third-Party Rights

Each entrant confirms that:

  • the submitted work is their own original work, or that they have obtained all necessary rights and permissions from any collaborators;

  • the submission does not knowingly infringe the intellectual property, privacy, publicity or other rights of any third party;

  • any third-party imagery, software, AI-generated material, reference material or other content incorporated into the submission is properly authorised for the intended use; and

  • they have disclosed any material use of generative AI or other third-party creative tools where requested by the organisers.

Entrants remain responsible for obtaining any permissions required for material incorporated into their submission.

6 Intellectual Property

Entrants retain ownership of the intellectual property rights in their original submitted designs.

Submission of an entry does not transfer ownership of the entrant's intellectual property to Komma or Dropcity.

However, by entering the Challenge, each entrant grants Komma and Dropcity a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to reproduce, display, publish, communicate and otherwise use the submitted work for purposes directly connected with the Challenge, including:

  • judging and evaluation;

  • displaying shortlisted and selected projects;

  • the Dropcity residency;

  • exhibition at Milan Design Week 2027;

  • websites and social media;

  • press and media coverage;

  • catalogues and publications;

  • documentation of the Challenge; and

  • reasonable promotional and archival purposes relating to the Challenge.

This licence does not give Komma or Dropcity the right to commercially manufacture or sell an entrant's concept.

Any future commercial development or exploitation of an entrant's design would be subject to a separate agreement with the relevant entrant.

7 Credit and Attribution

Komma and Dropcity will make reasonable efforts to credit entrants when their work is publicly exhibited or published.

Credit may be omitted where this is impractical, technically impossible or where the entrant has requested anonymity.

8 No Production or Commercialisation

The Challenge is a speculative design exercise.

Participation, selection or exhibition does not create any commitment by Komma or Dropcity to manufacture, develop, license, purchase or otherwise commercialise an entrant's concept.

The Komma vehicle platform remains the underlying technical architecture for the Challenge, but the submitted concepts should not be interpreted as production-ready vehicle designs or representations of future Komma products.

9 Recognition Rather Than Financial Prize

There is no cash prize or financial award associated with the Challenge.

The principal recognition for selected participants is:

  • consideration by the appointed selection panel;

  • recognition as a selected designer;

  • development of selected concepts through the Dropcity residency;

  • presentation of selected work to an international design audience; and

  • exhibition and/or presentation opportunities associated with Milan Design Week 2027.

No entrant will receive payment, royalties or other financial compensation merely as a result of entering or being selected, unless separately agreed in writing.

10 Selection Panel

Selected projects will be determined by a panel appointed by Komma and Dropcity.

The panel may consider factors including originality, design quality, relevance to the brief, innovation, feasibility as a design concept and the potential to challenge conventional thinking about urban mobility.

The organisers reserve the right to select no winner, or fewer selected projects than originally anticipated, if in their reasonable opinion the submissions do not meet the required standard.

The panel's decision will be final, subject to applicable law.

11 Public Voting

Where public voting is used, voting will be conducted in accordance with the rules published by Komma and Dropcity.

Public voting may form part of the selection process but does not necessarily determine the final selection unless expressly stated in the Challenge rules.

The organisers reserve the right to reject votes reasonably believed to have been generated fraudulently, automatically or otherwise in breach of the voting rules.

11 Exhibition and Residency

Selected designers may be invited to participate in a residency or development programme at Dropcity in Milan.

The precise format, dates, facilities and participation requirements will be communicated separately to selected participants.

Participation in any residency or exhibition may be subject to additional terms relating to travel, accommodation, safety, insurance, use of facilities and production of exhibition materials.

13 No Guarantee of Exhibition

Komma and Dropcity intend to present selected work at Milan Design Week 2027, but exhibition arrangements may be affected by circumstances outside their reasonable control.

The organisers therefore reserve the right to modify the format, location, timing or presentation of the exhibition where reasonably necessary.

14 Photography, Film and Publicity

Entrants acknowledge that the Challenge, residency and exhibition may be photographed, filmed and otherwise documented.

By entering, entrants grant Komma and Dropcity permission to use reasonable photographs, recordings, interviews and other documentation featuring their participation for purposes connected with the Challenge and its promotion.

Separate consent will be obtained where required by applicable law.

15 Personal Data

Personal information supplied by entrants will be processed for the administration and operation of the Challenge in accordance with the applicable privacy notice and data protection legislation.

The relevant privacy notice should be provided alongside these Terms & Conditions.

16. Changes and Cancellation

Komma and Dropcity reserve the right to amend the Challenge timetable, submission requirements, exhibition arrangements or other administrative aspects where reasonably necessary.

The organisers may suspend or cancel the Challenge where circumstances outside their reasonable control make this necessary.

Where material changes are made, reasonable efforts will be made to communicate them to participants.

17. Limitation of Liability

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited.

Subject to the above, Komma and Dropcity will not be responsible for losses arising from circumstances outside their reasonable control, including technical failures affecting submission or voting systems.

Entrants remain responsible for ensuring that their submissions are appropriately backed up and that they retain copies of their work.

18 Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions shall be governed by [INSERT JURISDICTION] and subject to the jurisdiction of [INSERT COURTS], unless applicable law provides otherwise.

19 Acceptance

By submitting an entry, the entrant confirms that they have read and accepted these Terms & Conditions.
